Two Queensland public servants and two contractors who worked at the Department of Education have been charged with fraud.

Between them, the four are charged with defrauding the department $392, 996 and dishonestly attempting to gain $2.5 million.

The charges were laid as part of an investigation led by the department and the Crime and Corruption Commission, which began in March last year.

A 40-year-old Chapel Hill woman, who worked as a contractor with the department, was charged on Thursday with defrauding the $30,360 and attempting to dishonestly gain $2.5 million. She was expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 2.
